Imagine walking through gently rolling meadows, beneath ancient trees, while the Elbe sparkles in the distance. The Jenisch Park in Hamburg’s district of Othmarschen offers you exactly this experience. As the oldest English landscape garden in the city, it invites you to harmoniously connect nature and culture.
On over 43 hectares, you’ll find expansive lawns, old maple, chestnut, and oak trees, as well as the babbling stream of the Flottbek, which meanders through the park. Sounds like a truly lovely retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city, doesn’t it?
In the middle of Jenisch Park, you'll encounter the Jenisch House, a neoclassical country house built between 1831 and 1834 for the Hamburg senator Martin Johann Jenisch. Today, it houses the Museum for Art and Culture on the Elbe, giving you a vivid insight into the bourgeois life of the 19th century.
Let’s not forget the view from the south-facing rooms of the Jenisch House over the Elbe. Who wouldn’t want to live here and watch the passing ships with a cup of coffee?
Insider Tip: Visit the park in the early morning light, when the dew is still on the meadows and the sun's rays break through the treetops. At this time, the park is particularly quiet and creates an almost magical atmosphere. |

With its generous open spaces, ancient tree giants, and the expansive view of the Elbe, Jenisch Park creates something that has become rare in a big city: space. Space to breathe, to walk, to marvel. The landscape design is deliberately restrained and draws attention to the essentials – nature, openness, tranquility.
The Jenisch House brings a completely different element to this setting: history at your fingertips. Here, you enter spaces that were once intended as a private retreat – but are now open to everyone.
